Nason vs. Altoona
Can anyone tell me how obstetrics at Nason Hospital is different from Altoona Hospital. I'm leaning toward using the midwives at Women's Care Partners, but I don't know much about Nason Hospital or their reputation in the area. Does anyone have experience with the midwives at Nason?

I wish I would have known more about midwives, doulas, etc. when I was pregnant with my two. I guess I never really considered it, but it seems like so many people have wonderful experiences with them. Unfortunately, we probably won't be having more babies.

Oh My Gosh! I could talk to you for hours about the benefits of Nason. I've had 2 babies at each hospital and would highly recommend Nason! I felt the experience at Nason was more personal. I had a OBGYN with my first 2 & used a doula for the second birth. The doula was great however Altoona does not allow them so we just said she was a friend, & she was by the time of my daughter's birth. After that birth & having the help of a doula I wanted the same experience with my next two & chose a midwife at Women Care Partners. At this birth the midwife was there at the hospital with me from the time I got there until I delivered 18 hrs later. At Altoona I had to wait until a Dr was there for certain meds etc. In this case you get the Dr on campus if there's an emergancy unless your Dr happens to be there. The Dr.'s aren't there waiting for you to deliver the midwife is. Dr. Littlejohn does deliveries at both hospital however the midwives are not allowed at Altoona

Glad you had a good experience. I've heard great things about the midwives there and Nason in general. Not sure why Altoona doesn't allow midwives, but I did have an overall good experience. The rooms are nice and the nurses were super. One nurse in particular was so loving to my baby boy. One night he was crying and she came to my room, and started rocking him and stroking his head. It made me want to cry!

I posted this question so long ago I can now answer it myself. I chose Nason Hospital because they do allow midwife assisted births (Altoona does not). I can’t compare it to Altoona Hospital, but I can say Nason was great. Everyone, from the nurses to the cleaning lady, was very attentive and caring. The nurse assigned to our labor and delivery was particularly good. I also chose Women’s Care Partners. I don’t know much about Dr. Littlejohn, but both midwives are awesome. Lori delivered our baby, but Donna is also great. They helped us make all the decisions involved with pregnancy, labor and delivery. I would recommend Nason Hospital and the midwives at Women’s Care Partners to anyone.

I've heard good things about Nason. I know Altoona doesn't allow midwives. I had a great experience at Altoona though. The nurses and lactation consultants were amazing.
