Biting
My 2 1/2 year old daughter attends daycare three days a week, and there's another little girl in her class who's bitten my daughter twice. Her teachers don't seem to think this is such a big deal -- but since this is my first child and she's the recipient of the biting, I'm upset by it! Is biting common among young children and is this something I should be concerned about, or is it something that will just pass with their age?

Most definitely push the issue w/the daycare. My childrens daycare never tolerated this. After the first bite incidents were reported, 2nd bites was explaination to the biters parents that this would not be tolerated. 3rd was find a new daycare. Yes children go through a biting stage, but a reinforced talk w/the child(biter) should be consistant. No biting - we don't bite our friends/anyone. If the daycare doesn't want to pursue it further, you do it. Not as easy as it sounds, but think of removing her. Or report the daycare to county offices, they go in to investigate when a daycare has a complaint called in. Good Luck.

Hi, to help you out with a few questions...yes, biting is not uncommon, but you need to be concerned. Some children are more aggressive at biting than others. Especially in daycare, this can be a huge problem. I know of a child that was actually left with a scar on her cheek from another baby. You need to be upfront with the supervisors of the daycare Two times is enough and you shouldn't have to stand for more. Something needs to be done such as removing the other child for fear of harm to the other children. It is probably just a stage that child is going through, but it can't be at the expensive of the other children. You definately have reason for complaint as you are paying them to keep your child happy and safe!
