Naps
My daughter has started resisting her naps. Even though I know she's tired, she cries and struggles but eventually falls asleep. I don't know whether to put her in her crib and close the door or let her continue playing and simply deal with her crankiness. Anyone else run into this problem?

I put books and quiet toys in the crib. I can hear him in there exploring, but eventually, he crashes. We also play classical music which eventually helps him zonk.

I went through that with both my kids. At that point, I just gave up the fight and let them crash on the couch (lol or floor) whenever they were so tired out that they couldnt keep going anymore! How old is your daughter? Age was also a factor in my decision with that as well. Once my kids got to be about 2 years old, I went back to inforcing the naptime. They would only get one nap a day, from 12 to about 1 or 2, then they were up the rest of the day till 9pm... bedtime. It has worked out well. They still fight me a lot when I tell them it is naptime, but I just put my daughter (she will be 2 next month) in her crib, and my son (hes 3 1/2) lays on the couch and I let them cry it out. The crying usually doesnt last that long, and the main reason I did it this way was to prepare them for Head Start when they turned 3. Now, my son is in Head Start and when he comes home from his afternoon classes, he tries to fall asleep watching T.V., most of the time I dont let him sleep that late th

My little guy is 17 months old and since about 4 months old he has been sleeping through the night. The thing is, he only takes one nap through the day, from like 12 to 2 and then is up until 7:30, when we start his bedtime routine(bath, bottle and bed). It seems to work for him.

This is happening to my son. I have started making his naps a little bit later. It gives him more time to play, and then when I do put him down, he pretty much goes to sleep. Good luck!

I think it all depends on athe age of your little one. No matter how old though, they need a little bit of calming time...looking at a book while rocking was always my ticket. They would start to look forward to that quiet "one on one" time with the caregiver and learn to understand what comes after that.

This is Kate. When my children were little, I was told it was best for them to find their own comfort methods, to leave them fuss a bit if necessary, but they would fall asleep. Of course if they were wailing, I would go in and rock them to calm them. But that seemed to work for both of my children.
