I believe the schools administration and teachers are responsible for the safety of your child from the time they board a school bus in the A.M. till they get off the bus in the afternoon. more »

Start 2009 by focusing your family on a fat-skimming project. Not to lose weight, but to skim off excess layers of toys, gently used clothes and household items.
Don’t just scoop up a sack of used toys with missing pieces. Instead, for the best lesson for your children, choose an agency in your county that has particular needs for kids, and focus on meeting those needs.
Here’s how one wish list from a family-services agency was filled to jump-start a play-therapy program. Play therapy generally is used with children about ages 3 to 11 to help them work through anxieties:
n A new storage unit with colorful bins with a half-off holiday sale coupon.
n An art easel with a half-off store coupon, and art supplies.
n A plastic round wreath-storage container gets a new use as a portable carrier for therapists to take puppets, both scary and friendly.
n Donated plastic dinosaurs in a bin fit the bill for one item on the list at no cost. Similar dinosaurs cost about $6 each.
