My love shows the love
February 15, 2013 - Kristy MacKaben
Whether he'll admit it or not, Scott is a romantic. I will never forget our very first Valentine's Day. We had been dating for just three months, but we were both head over heels for each other. I was so unsure of what to get him that I erred on the side of impersonal---a Barnes and Noble gift card. Yikes! Imagine my surprise and embarrassment when I walked into his apartment looking like a Valentine's gift shop. Roses, two teddy bears and a box of chocolates lined the kitchen counter. And my personal favorite----"I love you" spelled out in Jolly Ranchers on the couch. As if that weren't enough, he placed a heart-shaped necklace around my neck. He wasn't holding anything back that Valentine's, and I guess that was a sure sign he was smitten. (He proposed five months later.) I can't say that Scott has gone that overboard every Valentine's Day since, but he always makes me feel special. This year he had a dozen chocolate covered strawberries delivered, along with an "I love you" balloon and a sweet card. I know a lot of guys, especially those who have been married almost a decade, try to cop out of Valentine's Day, saying it's a "Hallmark holiday." I disagree. What's wrong with showing your special someone how much you love them? Of course you can show them on the other 364 days of the year too, but this is one special day to go above and beyond.
