Looking for some ideas for Groundhog Day weekend 2013? Here's a brief round up of possibilities for the Hollidaysburg and surrounding are this weekend.
How about some Sparkle? The Mischler Theater's production of It's A Sparkle Life opens tonight, Friday, 2/1. It's a family show following the adventures of Mr. Sparkle and the Sparkle School for the Arts. The supporting cast includes Children form right here in hour area. Go have some fun and see your friends on stage! Check the Mischler's website for details.
The Hollidaysburg YMCA is having a Valentines dance at 5:30 on Saturday evening 2/2. It's open to all and includes crafts, a dj, food, and fun. Eve and I have been to these before and we've always enjoyed tearing up the dance floor, eating treats, and making crafts. Check the Y's website for ticket prices.
Home Depot is holding a kids workshop on Saturday 2/2 at 9:00 am. Kids can build a Valentine card holder. Visit the website for details.
Need a train fix? Head over to the Antique Depot on Saturday 2/2. The Altoona Model Railroad museum has an enormous train layout there which is sure to amuse your little engineers. Eve and I love all the little slice of life scenes too. While you're there, check out the antiques! You might just find the perfect piece you've been looking for.
Yard sale junkies may want to head to the Jaffa on Saturday morning for the indoor yard sale. It starts at 7:30 am. you won't find us there at 7:30 am on a chilly Saturday - more treasures for you!
If you're interested in a little adventure and a true slice of American culture, head on out to Punxutawney this weekend. It's about an hour and a half away but there are kid friendly activities all weekend long, both in and out of doors. Who knows, you could be able to answer one of life's most puzzling questions - how do we know if Phil sees his shadow anyway? Check the calendar of events at www.groundhog.org.
And don't forget some of our favorites right here too. You could have a lovely Saturday date by just strolling down Allegheny Street. Get a hot chocolate at Allegheny Creamery and Crepes, then wander over to Playtime Pottery for a little artistic expression. Follow it up with by creating your own cupcake at Lindsay's Sweets and Treats. On the way home, stop at the library and pick up a book for story time or a family movie. head home and cuddle up!
Know of any other good weekend goings on? We'd love to hear about it!
