Goodbye 2012, a year of changes
January 1, 2013 - Kristy MacKaben
As part of our New Year's Eve celebration last night, we all talked about our favorite memories from 2012. What fun to reflect on the year! Julie even reminded us of things that had slipped our minds, like our quick trip to Washington D.C. last February to meet up with family or the week she spent with Meme and Papa this summer to go to a vacation bible school at my mom's church. Taking a look back also gave us a little glimpse into what trips and events the kids really loved. Hershey Park was an obvious favorite, but our going away party before we moved from Altoona was also a highlight for the kids. 2012 has been a year of big changes for our family. Moving 600 miles away wasn't easy. The kids still talk about their friends "back home", Johnny constantly asks when we're going back to the "yellow house" and Julie sometimes wishes we never moved. But, all and all, the kids have transitioned wonderfully. They have made new friends, flourished in school and found their niche. (Julie with swimming and Johnny with soccer.) At this time a year ago, we were just beginning to talk about our impending move to Chicago. We were excited, but a little frightened of what the future might hold. Would we sell our home? Would we find a house we loved in Chicago? How would we handle the move? Luckily everything resolved itself in time. We sold our home (albeit after 9 months), we are living in a great neighborhood near Chicago and we all are loving are new town so far. It's amazing how much can happen in a year. Goodbye to a very interesting 2012. Let's hope 2013 doesn't have too many surprises in store. Happy New Year everyone!
