We Made It!
December 25, 2012 - Jen Zbozny
It's been a wild stretch in the What world lately. There is an expression which goes, " if you want something done, ask a busy person". There is also another expression which goes, " isn't this enough already?" Wehave been fluctuating between both for a stretch. I think about how there was a whole rest of the year where we could have had a parade of ear infections, bronchitis, a death in the family, a Christmas program, insomnia, growth spurts, a snow storm, and a change in food preferences. But no, I think just like businesses that try to get everything in before the New Year we had to do all that in the past few weeks. That's on top of six or seven sewing projects that had to be done in secret, a thousand cookies made from scratch, a family's worth of homemade gifts, and a whole house decorated at night while a little girl slept.
In a way, we do this to ourselves. The true meaning of the holiday isn't in over functioning or in how much we spend. It's in the way our hearts expand with love for families and friends who wouldn't mind at all if we didn't bake or sew, but just showed up and were happy to be together. The miracle part is how we manage to get it all done in spite of surprise obstacles and still have energy left on Christmas morning to race downstairs in delight.
We made it and it was worth it. Merry Christmas!
