| | What's on Your List?July 3, 2012 - Jen ZboznyAre you a list person? I love lists. I am a list lover. A list-o-phile. Without one I become listless. I make them all the time. In addition to the usual To-Do list and the grocery list, I have all sorts of lists. Today, feeling like Huck Finn brought to mind one of my favorite lists. I have an ancient pair of cut-off blue-jean overalls. They're not the kind that have ever been fashionable. They're the kind farmers wear. That's because I "borrowed" them from my dad twenty years ago, and he happens to have a farm. Dad is more than 6 feet tall. I am just shy of 5 feet 9 inches. Needless to say, these overalls are loose, baggy, and delightfully well-worn. They're the perfect thing to wear while catching crawfish in a creek with your daughter and a gaggle of little kids. Standing in the cool water and shade of that creek today, I laughed at my Huckleberry Finn moment and thought, "this will never stop being fun". That's when I realized I needed to add to my list. Here are just some highlights of my list of things that have never stopped being fun, even if you're as old as I am. Jumping in puddles Digging in dirt Walking through water fountains Catching lightning bugs Blowing soap bubbles Catching snowflakes on your tongue Popping bubble wrap bubbles Catching rain drops on your head Rolling down grassy hills Jumping into a big pile of autumn leaves Standing in a creek on a hot day I don't know when it happens that we begin to think we've outgrown those things, but I'm here to tell you I've done them all -very recently. They're still deeply satisfying. If you have more to add, I'd love to know them. And I sincerely hope we meet in a creek someday. You'll recognize me by the overalls and the mischievous Huck Finn grin. Article CommentsNo comments posted for this article. Post a Comment | |
