| | Park of the Day: Legion ParkJune 18, 2012 - Jen ZboznyLegion Park is located at Bel Air Road and North Juniata Street in Hollidaysburg. It’s ENORMOUS. It features a baseball field, a wide expanse of open grassy (sometimes damp and marshy) space, restrooms, water fountains, stream, shaded pavilions with picnic tables, expansive discovery garden, and a huge playground with multiple play structures. The playground itself includes: * sandbox (take pails and shovels!) * bucket swings and regular swings * tire swing * many slides of varying heights so there’s something for littler kids and bigger ones too * lots of decorated pictures and turning letter blocks on the wooden walls of structures * of ladders and rope-like climbing areas * turrets to climb into * a little wooden Goldilocks house and a little wooden boat with a steering wheel * a mounted metal pipe xylophone for kids to bang on * a set of pvc rings to slide along a metal pipe structure * several varieties of monkey bars and sliding metal “zip-line” like structure Like I said, it’s a huge park. Be warned, the children love the play area but it’s set up like a maze so it makes it difficult to keep track of each other. Also, the playground structure itself is not in the shade , so between that and the wood-chips on the ground for soft landings it can get really pretty warm. Remember to take water! In the spring the park hosts a 10,000 egg Easter hunt that’s free for the children. There are also other special events in this park from time to time so it’s a good idea to check the signs as you drive past or look it up occasionally. My daughter and I happened on a lovely Animal Friends event here one Saturday in the Fall. Puppies jumped through hoops and everything – good fun! Article CommentsNo comments posted for this article.
