Happy Birthday Little Guy
April 19, 2012 - Kristy MacKaben
Dear Johnny, Today you turned 3. You were thrilled it was your birthday, but you kept insisting you were 2, not 3. "I'm still little," you kept telling me all day. I just re-assured you that you were still my "baby". You still can snuggle with me on Daddy's chair, and I'll give you hugs anytime you want, and sometimes when you don't. You loved cuddling since the day you were born. When you were first born, you were only happy sleeping on Mommy's chest. And, the lights had to be on. The second I would turn off the lights or just dim them a bit, you threw a fit. I should have known you just loved lights. As a baby you loved turning on and off the lights, and you were devastated when someone made you stop. Just picture your pure awe and delight at your first Christmas. The summer you were two we went on a family trip and you spent the entire vacation turning off and on lights in our cabins. Everyone joked that you would become an electrician, and for at least a year we were convinced this was the case. You were obsessed with electrical outlets, and would remove babyproof outlet covers and plug in various appliances or gadgets, such as fans, iPods, vacuum cleaners. You were unstoppable! Your abililty to problem solve and figure things out continues to amaze us. You keep trying something until you get it right whether it's putting on your socks and shoes or putting together puzzles with ease. For all the wonderful things about our little boy, your most endearing quality is your happiness. You love your big sister, despite the usual sibling squabbles, and you just want to be a part of her world. You're empathetic when someone is sad, and you are always wanting kisses and hugs. (Though from Daddy you prefer tackles and chase games). Your playfulness and silliness are contagious. Though at times you're so goofy it's hard to get you under control, it's hard to stay mad at you for too long. Thank you for bringing so much fun and happiness to our lives these past three years. Happy Birthday! Love, Mommy
