I shouldn't have been surprised when Johnny waddled over to me at Slinky, pants and undies completely soaked. What the heck was I thinking taking him in public not wearing a diaper or pullup....especially to a place where all he wants to do is play?! The last thing on his mind was the potty. So I deserved the pee-saturated clothes and nasty stares from other moms who were cursing me for sullying the play area with my child's urine. Maybe I got a little over-zealous in my potty training endeavors, but I couldn't help it. Johnny had been dry two whole days. (Poop is an entirely separate story for another blog.) Wearing the undies, Johnny had really made huge strides in potty training, so I didn't want to regress. But, I did want to get him out of the house and he loves Slinky. So, off we went with Johnny wearing undies like a big boy, and me crossing my fingers for another dry day. About 45 minutes into playtime, it happened. I probably was caught up in talking to other moms, but I really was planning on taking him to the potty in another 10 minutes or so. I guess his bladder beat me to it. I cleaned him up, put him in the reserved pullup and extra outfit and vowed to wait until he was completely ready to sport the underwear in a public place again. I don't like wishing away my kid's childhood, but please couldl we fastforward through potty training? Or better yet...is there such a thing as a potty training boot camp?
