All the news ...

October 5, 2011 - Margaret Moses
It's always enlightening and often horrifying to read the stories that come to our newsroom via the Associated Press. Case in point: today's story on A5 about a 7-year-old Scranton boy. A couple face a laundry list of charges for allegedly forcing him to sleep in a coffin in the basement, binding him with tape and clothing him in a diaper. Despicable.

Don't miss the last weekend of the Bedford Fall Foliage Festival. Looks like the weather should be perfect! There's an ad on A6 with information if you can go.

It's not too early to mark your calendars for the Taste of the Alleghenies coming in May to The Park at Morrisons Cove in Martinsburg. The Mirror is again sponsoring the well received show that's all about food and cooking. See the ad on A6 for info -- there will be more available in the coming months.

Unkel Joe's Woodshed has opened its 'Tis the Season Shoppe. That place is always amazing! See the ad on A10 for some discounts that they are offering and a coupon to enter a drawing for, among other prizes, a 7 1/2 foot Christmas tree!

The Mirror's Pet Expo is just around the corner. The expo will be on Oct. 16 at the Convention Center. You can check out various dog animal breeds, learn about the local bloodhound rescue team, see Tyrone's K-9 dog in action with his partner and so much more. The ad on C3 has all the info.

If you have a hankering for something different to read, the Cresson Public Library is holding its used book sale this week. There's a brief on D2 with details, hours, etc.
