| | As Real As It Gets...August 2, 2011 - Penny ChristineI woke up at 5:50am this morning solely to watch last night’s The Bachelorette finale before getting ready for work. I am not ashamed to admit this. I enjoy reality television and, for some reason, the Bachelorette draws me in year after year. Please do not mistake me for someone who ACTUALLY believes that any of it is real or that two people can TRULY fall in love under those circumstances. I mean, cameras? On staff make up artists? Fiji for Pete’s sake?? Every fun date you can think of from helicopters to zip lines to romantic dinners on the beach fill the hours each week as beautiful people who have somehow evaded love thus far, line up to find “the one” and get engaged on national television in a three month time span. I'll take my 'real life' scenarios like, "hey...my car broke down and I have no money to fix it, there's a zit on my chin... oh and hey...I have five kids and you will have to see their dad pick them up and drop them off for the rest...of...our...lives..." with no cameras around... The “um...their dad can’t have them this weekend so it’ll be me, you and the kids all weekend...and they’d like to go to a movie and it’s going to cost the better part of $70 to do so...” scenario. The, “I realize you bought that peanut butter and those ice cream sandwiches for YOUR enjoyment but the kids ate them in the five minutes we weren’t looking...” scenario. The, “sometimes the kids drive me nuts and I actually hate working full time so sometimes I get a teensy bit grouchy about that but a nap fixes that...would you mind keeping an eye on them while I nap?” scenario. The one that sticks with you through THAT?? Well, he’s a keeper. And thankfully, I found him the good old-fashioned way. Prayer, patience and match.com.
