Black, White and Read All Over

Back to school

I heard some excited voices of kids this morning as they walked up my street to catch the bus for the first day of school. I couldn't help but smile as I remembered those days with my guys. I think one of the saddest first-day-of-school pics I have is of Stephen, who broke his wrist the first day of third grade. But I have many favorites, looking at the kids as they grew and changed over the years. I'll have to dig some of them out and post them this week.

What a change the Tour de 'Toona was this year! See the coverage on A1 and B1 today.

Mothers of daughters -- make sure to read Connie Schultz's column on A4 today about body image and unretouched photos.

You have until Friday to request the name of a friend or loved one who has served in a local fire department, police department, EMS or medical community for at least five years. See the ad on A6 for details.

I gave my College Football Preview section from Saturday's paper to Chris when I went up for a quick visit on Saturday. I have to scrounge around here to find another.

Check out the People to People ambassadors from the area who participated in this summer's Australian itinerary. There is a photo and more information on D2.

Yankees fans will like today's Celebrity Cipher on D4. (That's the only hint I'm giving you. I solved it this morning at the dining room table.)
