Black, White and Read All Over

Erin's big night

Wendy Zook has been following the controversy over the proposed limestone quarry in Catharine Township, and her latest story on A1 is about the USDA holding up the loan to the company. It is going to be interesting to see how this pans out.

I like JD Cavrich's photo on A2 of Abby Parshall, who is watching her big brother Brent practice with the Hollidaysburg football team.

Tonight's a big night at the Curve -- it's Bark in the Park night, so there will be lots of dogs around, and there will be a banner there for people to sign in support of Mirror columnist Erin Kelly's quest to appear on the "Ellen" show. Some of us from the Mirror will be there tonight -- come by and say hello!

Ritchey's Dairy is sharing the excitement of its 70th anniversary with all of us this weekend. There are three days of fun and special prices on ice cream treats planned. The ad on A6 has details. You can even sign up to win ice cream for a year!

Terrible tragedy in Lousiana -- the story on C1 is about six teens who tried to save another teen who plunged into deep water. None of the kids could swim, and the only one who survived was the first boy. Adding to the horror -- their families were there when it happened.

Stop by Walgreens on Friday to support the Alex's Lemonade Stand fundraiser in the parking lot. Details are in the brief on C2.

I never thought about dogs suffering from PTSD. See the story on C3 about one German shepherd who is after returning from Iraq  as a bomb-sniffing dog.

I love the Life section's Behind the Plates series. It gives me lots of good ideas of places I've managed to miss in my 13 years of living here. Today's by Jimmy Mincin is on Aldo's Italian Restaurant in Juniata. It sounds heavenly. How have I managed to miss that place all these years?
