Stories of a Stay-at-Home Mom

Stay away teenage years!

There was a poll in a parenting magazine I was reading the other day. "Would you rather your kid be bullied or be the bully?" I thought that was a terrible question and the obvious answer of course is neither. Either way, that's just an awful scenario. On Foxs news last night, there was a story about a high school girl who killed herself because she was bullied. Her classmates called her names and even threw soda cans at her as she walked home from school. The story just made me so sick to my stomach. All I could think about was my own kids. They're little now, but soon enough they'll be in high school. Even though I'd like too, I can't hide them away forever. (That thought did cross my mind!) I just wish I could protect them from all the horrible things they might face in their teenage years. I don't know what I'd do if Julie or Johnny came home from school feeling ostracized and rediculed by their classmates. I just want to give them so much love now, so that they will know how lovable they are once they hit the age when kids become mean. And, what about the kids who are bullies? Their parents must feel terrible. If they're good parents, they're probably wondering where they went wrong. I wish there was a sure-fire parenting vaccine to prevent your kids from become the bully or the victim. Can't there be some formula to use so you can be sure your kid will turn out to be nice, caring and thoughtful of others? I guess all you can do is love them, discipline them in caring ways and pray for the best. Why can't our kids stay little and innocent forever?
