Stories of a Stay-at-Home Mom

Motivation!

I know I'm pretty out-of-shape, especially since having Johnny. It didn't really hit home for me until I ran the Hollidaysburg Haul 5K on Saturday. I literally came in dead last. (There was a man who finished in front of me who had to literally be about 90!) Granted, I was pushing Johnny in a stroller while I was running, but still! My sister and I used to run 5Ks all the time. We'd breeze through those 3.2 miles without barely getting out of breath. On Saturday, I stopped to walk at the half-way point and was physically exhausted at the finish. Scott, on the other hand, finished sixth for men 30 to 39. Scott just recently got into running. He's a big, athletic guy, but running was never his sport until recently. Now, he runs six, seven, miles with no problem. I think it's great, but it also makes me want to get back into running shape. I think it's important for our kids to see Scott and I exercising and eating healthy. That way, maybe they'll want to follow in our footsteps. Julie ran in the Kids Fun Run after the 5K race. She ran the entire 1/4-mile without stopping, which I thought was great. All the kids got ribbons, and she was so proud. "I beat four kids, Mommy," Julie yelled, excitedly. (Not that we're teaching her to be competitive or anything. Actually, that gene comes from her Daddy.) Julie breathed really hard and said "Phew, I need some water." I think she must have seen Scott breathing heavy after he finished his race. It was cute to see her all excited and proud about something like that. It's usually hard to get her to participate or even try activities like that. I think seeing Scott and I run the race motivated her. So, I'm going to start running more, eat less junk and maybe the next 5K race, I can beat that 90-year-old man!
