Stories of a Stay-at-Home Mom

Perfect weekend getaway

Sand toys, blankets, stroller, towels, chairs, coolers---our Exterra was packed with everything imaginable as we headed off on our weekend excursion to Raystown Lake Resort. We felt a little silly staying the whole weekend when our destination was only 40 minutes from home, but it was worth it. We had a blast! We were hoping to stay in the cabins, but they were booked, so we stayed in the lodge. No worries though. We still got a taste of camping. We sat by the campfire roasting marshmellows and playing games, though we weren't exactly roughing it. While roasting marshmellows, we also drank wine and listened to Oldies on our IPOD. (pretty comical actually.) Overall it was a great family weekend. My parents and my sister Kelly came too. Saturday we lounged by the little sandy beach. Julie had a great time splashing in the water and playing in the sand. Kelly and I reverted to our childhood by building a huge sand castle with a moat. After the beach we enjoyed a happy hour cruise on the Proud Mary. We relaxed on the deck sipping cocktails, enjoying the sun. We ate dinner at the Marina restaurant, then ended the night with the campfire. We had planned to hit the waterpark on Sunday, but the rain put a damper on our plans. We figured we'd try out the waterpark next time because there will definitely be a next time. Lake Raystown is the perfect weekend getaway for families and it's so close! We checked out of our room at 11 and we were home by lunch time.
